Samsung Pay
Samsung Pay lets Samsung device owners pay with one tap, confirmed by fingerprint or PIN, with their card details protected by tokenisation and Samsung's Knox security platform. In South Africa that audience is enormous: Samsung is the country's leading smartphone brand. Samsung Pay is live on LekkaPay as part of the standard integration.

Why Samsung Pay matters in South Africa
Samsung is the leading smartphone brand in South Africa by installed base - market-share reporting has ranked it first for years, across everything from entry-level Galaxy A models to flagship devices. That makes Samsung Pay a mainstream payment method here, not a niche one: a very large share of the customers arriving at your mobile checkout are holding a device with a payment wallet already built in. Offering Samsung Pay meets those customers exactly where they are, with the payment experience their device was designed around.
How do Knox and tokenisation protect payments?
Samsung Pay rests on two layers. The first is tokenisation: when a customer adds a card, the real card number is replaced with a device-specific token, and that token - never the actual card number - is what travels through each payment. You as the merchant never see or store the real card details. The second layer is Knox, Samsung's security platform built into the hardware of Galaxy devices, which isolates and protects the wallet and its credentials. Every payment still requires the customer's fingerprint or PIN, and where an issuing bank requires 3-D Secure 2 it applies as normal - usually without the customer noticing, because the risk signals are already strong.
What does Samsung Pay do for conversion?
The maths of mobile checkout is unforgiving: every field a customer must fill in loses a slice of them. Samsung Pay removes the card form entirely - one tap opens the wallet, one fingerprint confirms the payment. For a merchant whose traffic reflects the South African device market, that is a faster checkout for a very large group of real, paying customers, not an edge case. And because strong authentication happens on the device, the payments that come through are cleanly verified, which is good for approval rates as well as for fraud.
Where Samsung Pay fits in your payment mix
Samsung Pay completes the wallet set. Together with Google Pay for the wider Android market and Apple Pay for iOS, it means every major device in South Africa gets a native one-tap way to pay, with classic card entry as the fallback for everyone else. All three wallets switch on within the same LekkaPay integration, share the same settlement and reporting, and add no operational overhead - there is no reason to offer fewer than all three.
FAQ
Samsung Pay questions, answered.
What is Samsung Pay?
Samsung Pay is Samsung's digital wallet, built into Samsung Galaxy devices. Customers save their cards to it once, then pay with a tap and a fingerprint or PIN - no card details typed at checkout.
Is Samsung Pay safer than typing in a card number?
Yes. Samsung Pay replaces the real card number with a device-specific token, protects the wallet with Samsung's Knox security platform, and requires the customer's fingerprint or PIN for every payment. A typed card number can be copied or phished; a Knox-protected device token cannot be reused anywhere else.
Do I need extra integration work to accept Samsung Pay?
No. Samsung Pay is part of the standard LekkaPay integration and switches on as configuration. If you already accept cards through LekkaPay, adding Samsung Pay is a setting, not a project.
Which devices does Samsung Pay work on?
Samsung Pay runs on supported Samsung Galaxy smartphones and devices. Given Samsung's position as South Africa's leading smartphone brand, that covers a very large share of local mobile shoppers; customers on other devices simply see your other payment options.
Does 3-D Secure 2 still apply to Samsung Pay payments?
Where the issuing bank or regulation requires it, yes - and it usually runs frictionlessly, because a tokenised payment confirmed on a Knox-secured device gives the issuer strong risk signals. Customers rarely see an extra step.
