Platform

One platform, two models

The LekkaPay platform does two jobs that usually need two providers: it is a payment gateway for merchants who hold their own merchant account (MID), and a full payment facilitator for merchants who want to start accepting payments under LekkaPay merchant accounts. Same API, same back office, same risk engine - merchants switch models without re-integrating.

Why one platform with two models matters

Most growing merchants outgrow their first payment provider. They start on an aggregator because it is fast, then win their own acquiring deal for the economics - and discover that switching means a new API, a new back office, re-tokenising every stored card and retraining the finance team. LekkaPay removes that cliff: facilitation and gateway are two commercial models on one technical platform, so graduating is a paperwork exercise, not a re-platform.

How the platform is built

LekkaPay is cloud-native by design: a serverless token vault on AWS, keys in cloud HSM-backed key management, event-driven processing and multi-AZ resilience. The practical consequences for merchants are elastic capacity on peak trading days, no maintenance windows in your checkout's critical path, and a platform that ships improvements continuously rather than in quarterly release cycles.

FAQ

Your questions, answered

What is the difference between a payment gateway and a payment facilitator?

A payment gateway connects your checkout to your own acquiring bank - you hold the merchant account (MID) and the acquiring economics. A payment facilitator processes payments under its own merchant accounts on your behalf, so you can start accepting payments without an acquiring relationship. LekkaPay is one of very few South African providers that offers both on one platform.

Can I move from LekkaPay merchant accounts to my own MID later?

Yes - that is the point of the dual model. Start on LekkaPay merchant accounts, and when your volumes justify direct acquiring, bring your own MID onto the gateway. The API, back office, tokens and risk configuration stay exactly where they are.

Which acquiring banks does the gateway work with?

LekkaPay has direct integrations with Absa and Nedbank, and is compatible with any acquirer running Mastercard Payment Gateway Services (MPGS) and any Cybersource-connected bank. If your bank runs either platform, we can route to it.

Is the platform PCI DSS compliant?

Yes - African Payment Solutions, the company behind LekkaPay, is a PCI DSS Level 1 compliant service provider, the highest level of the standard. Card data is tokenised in a serverless vault and never touches your systems.
