Merchant accounts - accept payments without your own MID

A LekkaPay merchant account lets you accept payments without applying to a bank for your own merchant number (MID). LekkaPay holds the acquiring relationship, and you trade under our facilitation umbrella: one application covers every payment method, risk screening, settlement and reporting. Most merchants are live in days once compliance checks complete - not the months a direct acquiring application can take.

How it works

How it works

  1. Apply online

Company registration documents, director identification and bank confirmation - standard KYC, no bank meetings.

  2. We verify and approve

Compliance checks on your business are the pacing item; clean paperwork keeps them to days, not weeks.

  3. Integrate your way

Hosted checkout, plugin or API - test in sandbox, and the hosted checkout can be live the day you get credentials.

  4. Go live and get settled

Trade with every payment method enabled, settled on a defined schedule with every fee itemised.

What is payment facilitation?

Payment facilitation means LekkaPay holds the acquiring relationship with the bank, and you accept payments under a LekkaPay merchant account instead of applying for your own merchant number (MID). For a small or growing business the difference is practical: no bank application, no minimum-volume negotiation, no separate contract per payment method. One agreement with LekkaPay covers cards with 3-D Secure 2, Google Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, instant EFT via Ozow, M-Pesa, and vouchers - 1Voucher and OTT today, with additional voucher networks onboarding - plus risk screening, settlement and reporting, all included from the first transaction.

How fast can I go live?

Days, not months - with an honest qualifier. Most merchants go live within days of approval once compliance checks complete, and the checks themselves are usually the pacing item. LekkaPay is required to verify every business it settles money to - the same KYC obligation every regulated payment provider carries - so have your company registration documents, director identification and bank confirmation ready. Clean paperwork is the single biggest accelerator. The technology side rarely holds anyone up: the hosted checkout can be taking payments the same day you receive credentials, and plugins and the API follow the usual sandbox-then-live path.

Settlement, in plain language

You are paid on a defined settlement schedule, and every settlement statement itemises each transaction and each fee - no blended lump sums to decode. New merchant accounts typically carry a rolling reserve: a small percentage of each settlement held back for a fixed window, then released on schedule. It exists because, in the facilitation model, LekkaPay is financially liable for your chargebacks and refunds after money has been paid out to you; the reserve is the buffer that makes it possible to onboard businesses without years of trading history. We would rather explain that plainly on this page than have you discover it in clause 14 - the full explanation, with worked examples, lives at /insights/glossary/rolling-reserve/.

What happens when you outgrow the umbrella?

Facilitation is the fast road in, not a ceiling. When your volumes justify a direct acquiring relationship, you apply for your own MID and switch to the LekkaPay gateway - the same platform underneath, so your integration, your stored-card tokens and your reporting history stay exactly where they are. The commercial model changes; the code does not. That is a deliberate design decision: growing merchants should never have to re-integrate in order to graduate, and with LekkaPay you never will.

FAQ

Your questions, answered

How long does it take to go live?

Most merchants are live within days of approval, once compliance checks complete - and the checks are usually the pacing item, not the technology. Have your company documents ready and integration rarely holds anything up: the hosted checkout can be live the same day you receive credentials.

What documents do I need to apply?

Standard KYC: your company registration documents, identification for directors and beneficial owners, and confirmation of the bank account we settle to. It is the same verification every regulated payment provider must complete before paying funds to you - nothing exotic, and clean paperwork is the single biggest accelerator.

When do I get settled?

On a defined settlement schedule agreed at onboarding, with every transaction and every fee itemised on your settlement statement. Payment confirmation is real-time; settlement is the scheduled transfer of those funds to your bank account, and your statement shows exactly how each amount was calculated.

What is a rolling reserve?

A rolling reserve is a small percentage of each settlement held back for a fixed period, then released on schedule. It exists because, in the facilitation model, LekkaPay carries the financial liability for your chargebacks and refunds after funds have been paid to you - the reserve is the buffer that makes it possible to onboard businesses without years of trading history. Read the full explanation at /insights/glossary/rolling-reserve/.

Can I get my own MID later without re-integrating?

Yes. The merchant-account product and the LekkaPay gateway run on the same platform, so when your volumes justify direct acquiring you apply for your own MID and the model switches - your integration, stored-card tokens and reporting history all stay exactly where they are.

One platform, two models.

Start on LekkaPay merchant accounts or bring your own MID - same API, same back office, no re-integration.
